Help Save Logtown Climbing
The Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC), the Columbiana County Park District (CCPD) and the Ohio Climbers Coalition (OCC) are working together to purchase 29.09 acres of private property owned by the Kerestes family, which includes the Main Cliffs at Logtown, just outside of Lisbon, Ohio. The Middle Cliffs are owned by the Village of Lisbon which allows climbing there. Climbing at Logtown has been a tradition since at least the 1960’s and we are working hard to keep that tradition strong.
A lot has happened to get us where we are today, and we want to let you know where everything currently stands....
After recently talking with a representative of the Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC) the following is an update of the attempt to raise funds necessary to purchase 29.09 acres of property that include the Main Cliffs at Logtown, near Lisbon, Ohio.
The deadline for raising the funds is August of this year, 2024. This is sooner than the original date reported to us of April/May of 2025. The WRLC has applied for a grant from the Access Fund. Time will tell.
The WRLC also applied for a grant through the Ohio Legislature which, if approved, would cover a lot of the cost.
In case you missed the original information about Logtown, a contract has been signed between the WRLC and the current landowner to sell the property to the WRLC for around the appraisal amount of $300,000. Once sold the property is immediately turned over to the Columbiana County Park District (CCPD), which supports climbing. The WRLC has been awarded the Ohio Clean Air Grant, which covers all but $90,000 of the purchase cost.
The Ohio Climbers Coalition (OCC) are asking climbers to help to raise $5,000 towards the purchase price. The OCC will match climbers donations up to $5,000, making a possible total of $10,000 raised by climbers. This will help to add to the already great relationship between Ohio climbers, the OCC and the CCPD.
As of 2/15/24 $2,825 has been raised on the OCC website. With the OCC match this doubles to $5,650 raised so far, over half of our goal.
Please consider donating to this cause, especially if you plan on climbing at Logtown.
If the funds are not secured for the purchase of this property, the OCC will use the funds raised on our website for future conservation or improvement projects at the Middle Cliffs of Logtown, which are on Village of Lisbon property.
A big THANK YOU to all that have already donated!
